Today’s holiday is Strawberry Day, which celebrates the humble strawberry, arguably the world’s most popular berry. I’m still partial to blueberries myself, but strawberries are yummy too, though I tend to not enjoy them as much if they’ve been cooked. For me, fresh strawberries are where it’s at, eaten straight up or dipped in sugar.
Strawberries have become popular as a visual theme too, being an element in many fabric and paper patterns. You can’t use red fabric with small white polka dots and not evoke strawberries. Strawberries even inspired a line of scented dolls in the early ’80s, which also spawned a few television specials. Anyone remember Strawberry Shortcake and all her friends? Blueberry Muffin, Raspberry Tart, Huckleberry Pie, Lemon Meringue, Orange Blossom, plus a whole bunch of others that I didn’t have.

“Every Day is a Holiday” is my Etsy Treasury project for 2014. I’m hoping to find unique and beautiful items that exemplify the holiday of the day—the sillier and weirder, the better! What’s better than finding something worth celebrating each and every day?
