Etsy Treasury: Take Your Child to the Library Day (Every Day is a Holiday)

Kids these days. Mention the word “library” and they just might cock their head sideways and look at you like you’re speaking in tongues.

With the increasing popularity of the Internet and devices with which to connect to it, children have access to a tremendous amount of information and learning tools from around the world right at their fingertips. Research for a report, interactive learning games, exploring interesting subjects not currently being discussed in school… it all can be done from a computer or tablet right at home. Or, they’re just playing games, watching funny videos, chatting with friends, or listening to music. Let’s face it: Going to a building with a bunch of books in it that you can read or borrow is about as foreign a concept to today’s kids as going outside to play or a corded telephone. That’s why we have Take Your Child to the Library Day.

Today, take your son or daughter to your local library. They just might be amazed by the sheer number of books. Perhaps they’ll be inspired by the people inside, satiating their hunger for knowledge. Hopefully, when they complain that they’re bored and beg to go home so they can play more X-Box, they’ll do so quietly. 😉

“Every Day is a Holiday” is my Etsy Treasury project for 2014. I’m hoping to find unique and beautiful items that exemplify the holiday of the day—the sillier and weirder, the better! What’s better than finding something worth celebrating each and every day?
