Countless people make resolutions thinking New Year’s Day is a magical slate-wiping holiday that enables them to change their bad habits for good. It’s a nice thought, but let’s face it: how many of you have ever made a resolution and actually stuck to it the whole year? I’ve only succeeded once, when I was in fifth grade in 1986 and decided to forego soda (and to this day, I don’t drink a whole lot of it). Aside from that, I’ve made resolutions to exercise more and eat better every year for the last 10 or more New Year’s. Never EVER pans out.
So how long does the average resolution last? A day or so? A few months? Apparently, only a couple of weeks. January 17th is the most common day to give it all up. That’s why today, we celebrate Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day. If you’ve made it this far but simply can’t go on without smoking a cigarette, diving into a box of chocolates, or overindulging on your alcoholic beverage of choice, don’t feel so bad—you’re not alone.
If you’re ditching that resolution anyway, might as well do so with a little bit of style. And if one of your resolutions is to be more stylish throughout the new year, then it counts as a half-win, right?

“Every Day is a Holiday” is my Etsy Treasury project for 2014. I’m hoping to find unique and beautiful items that exemplify the holiday of the day—the sillier and weirder, the better! What’s better than finding something worth celebrating each and every day?
